What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to benefit from a person’s work or service.

People are trafficked for the purposes of:

Forced labour
Forced marriage
Sex
The removal of organs.

Every year millions of women, men, and children are trafficked. There are roughly 40 million people enslaved today in a $150 billion dollar industry.

Victims are often lured by empty promises of a job, stability, or education, but they are also lured through the promise of a loving relationship.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them” (AMP).

They all share one thing in common: vulnerability. Trafficking can happen in any Country and the enslaved can be any age, race, gender, or nationality.

Why Is Human Trafficking Awareness Our Cause at SHE International?

God has called us as leaders to get uncomfortable with the subject.

We believe that every single person, whether child or adult, female or male, is made in God’s image and is, therefore, valuable and worthy of dignity.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them” (AMP).

Human trafficking dehumanizes people. Our hope is to see people restored into the fullness of who God created them to be.

God loves justice and He hears the cries of the oppressed. Human Trafficking is a form of physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological bondage.

For this reason, God sent His Son Jesus to die on the Cross for our sins. Jesus came to set the captives free.

How Do You Get Involved?

As Christians, we can be involved in the fight to end Human Trafficking. One way to do this is through Prayer. Prayer changes things and God hears our prayers.

Having the tough and uncomfortable conversations and finding ways to help the women, girls and boys being exploited.

Another way is by educating ourselves on the issue of Human Trafficking. Being aware of the signs of trafficking. Knowing the anti-trafficking organizations in your community and how we can support them. Listed below are some resources that can be used.

THE CANADIAN CENTRE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking is a national charity dedicated to ending all types of human trafficking in Canada.

BE AMAZING CAMPAIGN

Cathy Peters raises awareness to the issue of Human Sex Trafficking/Sexual Exploitation for the purpose of Prostitution to politicians, police and the public.

CARE 68 NETWORK

The CARE 68 Network was created by the Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University to be a network of churches and faith-based groups that work together. The 68 in our name is inspired by Micah 6:8.

THE SA FOUNDATION

The SA Foundation provides long term housing, recovery and training programs for women and their children escaping human trafficking and sexual exploitation worldwide.

NEXT STEP MINISTRIES

Next Step Ministry(NSM), is a Christian non-profit Organization, that believes with a community of great supporters, we can make a great impact on this crisis in our lifetime. Freedom Catalyst Regina (FCR) is a grass roots anti-human trafficking advocacy group in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Motivated by the dynamic love of Jesus to seek justice and defend the cause of the oppressed, Freedom Catalyst Regina exists to be a catalyst towards abolishing human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

CHILDREN OF THE STREET

Children of the Street is dedicated to preventing the sexual exploitation and human trafficking of children and youth in British Columbia.

ILLUMINATE: ENDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING

The Salvation Army Illuminate has pioneered the “Freedom Model”, a one of a kind, trauma sensitive case management model designed to be inclusive of survivor voice while working towards goals that are personalized and oriented towards healing from the inside out.

BRIDGENORTH

BridgeNorth is a registered charitable organization, started in 2014 with the goal of seeing an end to sexual exploitation in Canada. Casandra Diamond, our founder and director, herself a survivor of the Canadian sex industry forged the way to make BridgeNorth survivor founded and survivor lead. We believe freedom comes through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

DEBORAH’S GATE

The Salvation Army Deborah’s Gate was the first high security Canadian safe house and live-in program of its kind for survivors of human trafficking.

DEFEND DIGNITY

Defend Dignity exists to end all forms of sexual exploitation in the world. Defend Dignity believes in the inherent dignity and value of all women, men and children are made in the image of God.

ACT ALBERTA

ACT Alberta works collaboratively with victims of human trafficking, law enforcement, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to identify and respond to human trafficking in our province. ACT Alberta serves the needs of internationally and internally trafficked men and women, and assists those trafficked for the purposes of labour exploitation and sexual exploitation.

JOY SMITH FOUNDATION

The Joy Smith Foundation works to ensure that every Canadian man, woman and child is safe from manipulation, force, or abuse of power designed to lure and exploit them into the sex trade or forced labour.

INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION

IJM works with local authorities with 19 program offices in 11 countries to combat slavery, violence against women and children, and other forms of abuse against people.
